Major Addition/Alteration Norwood, Ma
(Currently In-Design)

mjh Architects has been contacted to design a major addition/alteration to an existing Cape Style home which currently has approximately 1,500 s.f.  The home owners would like to "bump out" the back of the existing home slightly reducing the large oversized backyard, but still leaving a more than adequate open space for outdoor entertaining and activities.

The home owners enjoy entertaining and therefore would like the new addition to include a new large kitchen that is open to the altered existing living room.  The open floor plan will provide spatial needs required to entertain large groups while maintaining an appropriate scale for everyday family living.

Adjacent to the large kitchen bump out will be a master suite which is an extension of an existing guest room.  The large master suite will boast a master bath with his and hers sinks, oversized steam shower and linen storage.  The master suite will also include a large walk-in closet along with separate additional storage areas.  Adjacent to the master suite will be a common half bathroom with washer and dryers off of it.

The home owners would like the kitchen and master suite to have cathedral ceilings with exposed beams in the kitchen,  Natural light is also of major importance and therefore the spaces are being designed with windows, glass sliders, clerestory windows and skylights.

A new mudroom/entry will be added on the south side of the existing house and the new extensions of the home will be tied together with a wrap around covered porch/open deck which looks out over the beautiful backyard.
